How to Restore an Old Dresser

Everyone has an old piece of furniture sitting around the house, just begging to be updated. This video will teach you how to prep and paint your piece of furniture, restoring its beauty and charm. Experiment with different colors of paint, or recreate the original look. You’re sure to love the finished results!

Things you’ll need:
Old Furniture
Sand Paper
Paint
Paint Brushes
Old Clothes
Dish Soap
Toothbrush
Sponge
Sandpaper

Things to do:
1. The first step is cleaning the surface of your furniture. If you’re like me and store unneeded pieces in your garage, it’s likely that there’s a lot of dust to wash away. Mix a few squirts of dish soap and warm water in a large container and use a sponge or toothbrush to scrub every surface clean.

2. Once you’ve cleaned the desk, the next step is sanding. Use a piece of sandpaper and sand in the direction of the grain. Avoid sanding it circles to keep the surface smooth. Use a damp rag to clean the dust particles from the surface.

3. Once you’ve completed your prep work, the next step is painting the piece of furniture. I chose to redo the black paint on my desk, but feel free to get creative and use different colors or chalk paint for a vintage-inspired look. Start painting at the edge of the piece, covering the edges evenly. Painting in the direction of the grain will create an even and professional finish.

4. Allow time for the paint to dry and apply two-three coats if necessary. Once you’ve finished painting, you’re left with a fresh piece of furniture to display in your home!
