How to Make Yarn Pom Poms in Bulk

Sometimes one pom pom is just not enough. This technique allows you to create multiple, almost identical pom poms for banners and projects in a quick and material efficient way. You’ll have far less waste from trimmings here and can produce Pom Poms in bulk in no time flat.

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 10 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Table or chair
Yarn
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Loop the yarn once around two of the table legs and tie, snugly but not overly tightly, at one end.

2. Wrap the yarn around and around the two legs, adding multiple colors if you wish.

3. Once the yarn is bulked up (how fat your pom poms are depends on how many wraps you do) start tying off the yarn about every three inches. Tie tightly.

4. Cut the points where the yarn wraps around the legs to release the bundle.
5. Check each tie to make sure it’s as tight as possible.

6. Trim away between each tie off and cut off the excess on the ends so that each bundle is about the same size.

7. Roll the pompoms in your hand and trim away any excess yarn.

  1. Love this idea!! It would be nice if there were a suggested amount of wraps for making a nice fluffy filled pon pom. I was thinking putting it around two 16 penny nails or spikes. Less yarn at each for less waste. I will have to use this idea next time I need multiples. Thanks so much

  2. What a great idea. Saves so much time. Now I have to find something to make so I can use them. Thanks.

  3. Love this! Im doing a craft for 30 children, this will make it so much easier! Thanks for the ideal.
