It’s time to repurpose those half-burned candles you have around the house! This upcycle project will teach you how to transform your leftover wax into beautiful, scented candles that make great gifts.
Difficulty level: Beginner
Time to complete: 1 Hour
Age range: 13 and up *Always use caution when handling hot wax
Things you’ll need:
Enamel mug
Dowel rods
Candle wick
Old candles
Scented oils
Pan
Knife
Things to do:
1. Use a knife to cut your old candles into cubes. The smaller the cubes, the quicker your wax will melt down.
2. Place the cubes of wax into an old pan and set it on your stove over a low heat. Use a wooden spoon to stir the wax occasionally.
3. When the wax is melted, apply a few drops on the bottom of your wick and stick it to the center of your mug.
4. Pour several drops of scented oil into your melted wax and mix it in.
5. Pour the melted wax into your enamel mug. Leave 1/2 inch of the wick exposed.
6. Use dowel rods to hold your wick in place and let the wax harden. If the center sinks, add more wax until the surface of your candle is level.
