How to Make a Sparkly Sequin Bowl

If you’re decorating for a party or creating a kitschy theme for a tween girl’s room, this sequin bowl is a great addition. You can even have her help make the bowl! The bowl will turn out flexible, and – of course – sparkly!

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 24 hours (includes dry time; about 30 minutes active)
Age range: 10+

Things you’ll need:
Sequins – any color or a variety of colors. Will need a few packages!
Mod Podge
Medium size bristle or foam brush
Balloon
A bowl on which to balance the inflated balloon

Things to do:
1. Lay some newspapers over your work area, because this can get a little drippy and messy! Brush some Mod Podge to the top of the balloon.

2. Start covering with sequins.

3. Cover as wide of an area as you’d like your bowl to be. Allow this to dry.

4. Once that layer dries, apply another thick coat of Mod Podge. At this point you can add more sequins to fill any bare areas, but the Mod Podge will create a layer of skin even if there are missing sequins here and there.

5. Allow the balloon to dry for at least 24 hours. Once it’s dry, pop the balloon. The balloon will peel away from the Mod Podge sequin bowl and is easy to remove. If desired, coat the inside with another round of Mod Podge and allow to dry. Fill with lightweight items, since the bowl will remain flexible – though keeps its shape – after drying.
