Felt, Button and Cinnamon Stick Trees

These rustic trees are a great way to use up felt scraps and odd buttons and are simply adorable hanging from your tree, adorning a wreath or topping a gift. You can also add a small amount of fiberfill inside the trees for a poofier finished product.

Difficulty level: Moderate
Time required: 20 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Felt
Buttons
Scissors
Cinnamon sticks
Craft glue
Embroidery thread
Embroidery needle

Things to do:
1. Cut out two triangles for each tree. These do not have to be exact and can have rounded edges or be uneven for a more rustic look.

2. On one triangle, sew buttons at random onto the tree, avoiding the edges.

3. Sandwich the two layers of felt together and, starting just a little off center on the bottom, sew around the trees using the blanket stitch. If you are adding fiberfill, you’ll want to do that now.

4. When you have almost reached the place you started sewing, dab a little glue around the top of a cinnamon stick and insert it into the bottom for a trunk.

5. Stitch right up to the trunk and then wrap the thread around the trunk a few times before securing the end of the thread and trimming the tail. If using as an ornament, add a loop of thread at the top for hanging but allow the glue to dry before using the trees.
