Fabric Embellished Notebook

Between my artist husband and myself, our house has many, many of those lightweight notebooks that are so popular these days. And while I find them very functional for writing, list making and idea jotting, they are a little plain. And with two of us using them, we quite often mix them up when heading out to work. So I’ve started differentiating mine with a few embellishments that I know he’ll never accidentally mistake for something of his! One of my favorite ways to add a little spunk is with fabric and trim scraps and a little sewing magic!

Things you’ll need:
Lightweight notebook (such as a Moleskine)
Fabric and trim scraps
Sewing machine and notions
Pinking shears and scissors

Things to do:
1. Cut a piece of fabric just smaller than the cover of the notebook, trimming the edges with pinking shears to avoid fraying.

2. Sew along the long edges of the fabric, right through the cover of the book. You can use a standard straight stitch or mix things up with fun colored thread and some wild stitches.
3. Once the main piece is securely on, start playing with trim. Layer ribbon and woven trim, play with stitches, even add some hand embroidery. Whatever makes your notebook more you”

4. Trim all threads before and jot, doodle and dream to your hearts content!
