Easy to Make Raffia Flower Embellishments


Use these raffia flowers as decorations for packages, cards, or scrapbook pages. They can also be used for cute party or wall decor for a child’s room.

Time required: 30 minutes
Age range: 8+

Things you’ll need:
Raffia ribbon
Button
Glue

Card stock, cut into a 3″ circle
Pen or pencil
Ruler
Pliers, if needed to remove a button shank

Things to do:
1. Fold the card stock circle in half both directions to find the center, and draw lines for the center in both directions.

2. Cut several 3 1/2″ pieces of raffia – enough to cover the circle. The number you need to cut depends on the width of the raffia.

3. Fold each piece in half and cut lengthwise partially up the piece, but don’t cut all the way through the center.

4. This is what your pieces will look like once they’re fringed.”

5. Add glue to each line on the circle of card stock.

6. Place two pieces of raffia as shown.

7. Continue gluing the pieces of raffia around the circle.

8. Keep adding raffia until the entire circle is covered.

9. If your button has a shank, remove it with your pliers and glue to the center of the raffia flower.
