Easy Button and Pipe Cleaner Caterpillar

If you’ve got kiddos, you know that little ones always seem to love caterpillars. I get it. They are cute and a little mysterious and magical and when you find one crawling along the branch of the tree it’s so exciting, whether it’s the first or fortieth or four hundredth time. This project takes another kid favorite, buttons, and some fine motor skills practices and turns it into a little caterpillar of their own with this fun, kid friendly project.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Age range: 5+
Time Required: 15 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Assorted buttons
Pipe cleaners
Googly eyes
Craft glue

Things to do:
1. Fold a pipe cleaner in half and thread both ends through one of the buttons, using both holes if it is a two hole button or two across the center from each other if it is a four hole button.

2. Continue to string buttons onto the pipe cleaners, varying the colors, until you have only an inch of so of pipe cleaner coming out the ends.

3. String on a larger button for the face and bend the remaining length of pipe cleaner up, rolling the ends slightly to make antenna.
4. Glue goggle eyes onto the face and bend into a caterpillar shape to finish.
