How to Dye Coffee Filters

Coffee filters are one of those every day, ubiquitous household materials that, although simple, can be turned into a wide variety of fantastical projects. The one downside is, of course, they only come in white and natural paper color! But have no fear, here’s a quick way to color your filters before your projects, opening up their usefulness to even more possibilities!

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 15 minutes plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
Coffee filters
Craft paint
Water
Small plastic tub
Drying line

Things to do:
1. Squirt a small amount of brightly colored acrylic paint into the plastic tub. Fill with about an inch of water and stir to combine. Using brighter paints will give you brighter finished product but remember that you’ll always get a lighter color than the paint.

2. Pull five of six coffee filters from your stack and fully immerse them into the colored water.

3. Hang the filters individually onto a line to dry and then repeat the process until you have as many filters as you need. You can also lay them out flat to dry on craft paper, although this will take longer to dry.
