Dreamcatcher Keepsake Organizer Tutorial

Dreamcatchers are fun to make, but they don’t have to just be pretty to look at. The cord on this version makes it easy to attach photos to make a keepsake organizer. Or use it as a message center where you tack tickets, schedules, grocery lists and other important information.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time to complete: 10-15 minutes
Age range: 10+

Things you’ll need:
Gold metal craft ring
Round crocheted doily
Brown macrame cord
Natural feather picks
Miniature clothespins

Things to do:
1. Center the doily in the middle of the craft ring.

2. Cut a length of macrame cord. I used about five feet for this part. Tie a knot to the side of the craft ring. Bring the cord through one of the holes in the doily, from back to front. Wrap the cord over the top of the craft ring. Make sure you don’t pull the doily tight to the ring; it will hang in the center of the ring, not be pulled to the edge.

3. Continue to go up through a hole on each point of the doily and wrap the macrame cord back around the craft ring in the same manner around the ring. If your cord starts to fray, put some tape on the end.

4. Repeat all the way around.

5. Unite the original knot. Tie the two ends of the cord together, then tie them to the craft ring. Trim the ends.

6. Add the feathers by cutting a piece of cord about 2 feet long. String the cord through the loop on the end of the feather pick and tie a knot. Repeat on the other side. Tie to the craft ring if desired.

7. Use the miniature clothespins to attach whatever you want to the dreamcatcher. I went with a couple of family photos and a knit heart. Hang on the wall where it will make you smile every day.
