DIY Whiteboard Travel Tray

As we move from winter into spring and summer, the season of road trips is coming upon us. I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the hunt for things that will keep my children busy in the back seat and the car as tidy as possible when you are traveling with kids. This project has been a life changer for our trips, both solving the problem of a writing, eating, doing surface as well as cutting down on the piles of drawing paper that we seem to accumulate on every trip. With a wipeable drawing surface kids can use dry erase markers to color to their hearts content, wiping away and creating something new whenever the mood strikes. It’s raised sides also make it great for puzzles, games or helping to keep food under control. It’s also magnetic so magnet paper dolls or games stay put even on bumpy roads. A win win!

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 10 minutes

Things you’ll need:
White board contact paper
Cookie sheet
Velcro
Dry erase markers
Ruler
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Measure the bottom of your cookie sheet and transfer this measurement to the contact paper. Cut out your piece.

2. Test the contact paper for fit, before removing the backing, rounding corners as needed to make it fit snugly.

3. Cut squares of the hook side of the Velcro and stick one to each handle of the tray. Cut loop sides squares of the Velcro and apply them to the sides of your dry erase markers so that kids can keep the colors they are writing with easily on hand.
