DIY Watercolors

My daughter has recently discovered painting in a big way. Up until now she had very, very little interest in painting, being more of a playdoh kind of girl, but now that painting is here it’s HERE. As are her opinions about just what colors she wants to paint with. I’ll give you a hint. Its starts with a p and ends with a ink. Which is all fine and dandy except once she has used up the pink in the watercolor tray she things she needs a new one. So rather than buying heaps of watercolors just for the pinks, I’ve made her a custom set with just her favorite colors. If you have a little painter in the family you can too with this easy recipe. But don’t think you have to stick to just pink!

Things you’ll need:
Baking soda
Cornstarch
White vinegar
Light Corn Syrup
Food coloring
Pallet, egg carton or other tray for holding paints
Toothpick

Things to do:
1. Add a drop of food coloring to each section of your egg carton or tray.

2. Combine 2 parts each baking soda, cornstarch and vinegar and 1 part corn syrup and stir. (It will fizz, don’t worry, keep stirring and it will stop!)

3. Fill each compartment of the tray with the mixture and stir with a toothpick. Allow the paints to harden before using.
