DIY Watercolor Pages

My daughter has recently become a huge watercolor fan and she is almost always up for a painting session. Instead of pulling out the watercolors each time (and having to wash them out after each session due to all of her mixing) I’ve decided that watercolor pages are the way to go. Especially now that I’ve figured out how to make my own. If you have a little painter in your house, this is a great summertime staple. Easy to take along on a trip to a museum or a park, all you need is a brush and a little water and you are ready to go!

Things you’ll need:
Liquid Watercolors
Watercolor paper

Things to do:
1. Uncap one color of paint and work a small amount out onto one edge of the paper, spreading it with the mouth of the tube so that you have a thin layer of paint on the paper.

2. Repeat with more colors, working down the edge of the paper and leaving about an inch between colors.

3. Allow the paint to dry fully before using as you would any paint with water page.

  1. A little painter?????? Oh I can see where a BIG painter could use this too! It would be much easier than carrying the tubes of paint on trips like that.

  2. THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!! It is so right in front of your face.. DUH why didnt I think of this.. kind of thing! Cant wait to try it out!

  3. I will take this one step further and add a generous bead of white glue along the paint to create a barrier between the paint and the canvas. Also simply using primary colors for watercolors is really all thats needed and helps reinforce/teach kids about mixing colors and you could make the paint dots a little larger with more space between for mixing. Love this idea and intend to make a book of pages for my Granddaughters for Christmas.
