DIY Veneer Ball Hanging Lamp

I have a thing for modern mixed with old fashion. I love the look of the two together and try to use it all over my house. SO when it came to the lighting over my quilt festooned bed, I wanted to continue with that thread and bring a little modern into an otherwise traditional room. This Veneer Strip hanging lamp is quick to make and can blend with any room style. The veneer can be painted to stained to match your color scheme or left as is for a natural wood look. You can also make the lamp more or less formal by making the loops more or less tidy, and messier” bundle of looks will give you a casual look while a neat, evenly spaced ball will look more formal.

Difficulty level: moderate
Time required: 1 hour plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
Hanging Lamp kit
Wood veneer strips or roll
E6000
Clips or clothespins
Cardboard
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Cut a square of cardboard about 2 inches by 2 inches. In the center cut an X.

2. Pull the bracket up off the base of the light fixture and, pulling the flaps of the X up, slid the square of cardboard onto the light fixture, securing by pinching it between the light and the bracket. This will form a base for your strips to be glued on.

3. Cut three or four strips of the same length that will make a circle roughly the size you want the finished light to be.

4. Create a base for the rest of the strips by gluing the ends of each of the first three or four strips to the cardboard, securing with clips until they are dry. This will form a sphere to work off of.
5. Weave more strips, of roughly the same length, in, out and around the base you have created, gluing where the ends meet and securing with a clip until the glue has dried. Adding longer or shorter strips makes the finished ball less rigid.

6. Continue until the lamp is as dense as you want. Allow the glue to dry before hanging and using.
