DIY Spindle for Spinning Yarn

I’m a spinner. I am wholeheartedly addicted to spinning yarn, so much so that I can never have too many spindles, from the simplest little top whorl to fancy, perfectly balanced, hand carved specimens. And as a spinner, I love to pass on my craft to others, which is great because to start spinning, you need only a few simple things, a basic spindle and some roving. And a spindle couldn’t be easier to make. So get started spinning!

Things you’ll need:
1/4 inch unfinished dowels
2 inch unfinished wooden toy wheel
Fine grit sand paper
Craft glue
Cup hook
Wool roving

Things to do:
1. Slide the wheel onto the dowel so that it rests about 1 inch from the end.

2. Add a drop of glue just above the wheel and twist so that the glue works all the way around the dowel. Wipe off any excess. Allow the glue to dry.
3. Lightly sand the ends of the dowel and any rough spots on the spindle.
4. Screw the cup hook into the center of the short end of the dowel, adding a little glue if needed to keep it secure.
5. Spin away!
