DIY Personalized Ear Buds

We’re pretty digital device friendly in our house. Between the grown ups, the tween and the little one we’ve got two computers, three phone, two e-readers and who knows how many Mp3 players. And it’s just fallen in that all our devices are the same. Three of the same phones, two matching ebooks… and so on. Which is great because we can share back and forth. It’s also not great because, well, there are some things we don’t want to share. Like earbuds. All four of us love to listen to music but we’re not super keen on passing the earphones back and forth. The problem is, of course, that, since they came with our devices and our devices are all the same, they all look exactly the same. So here’s my trick for keeping my earphones just for me and theirs just for them.

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 5 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Earbuds, one for each person
Washi tape, one for each person
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Let each person pick “their” washi tape so that they can easily identify (and like) their particular print or color.

2. Cut one inch strips, 3 for each par of buds.
3. Roll the tape smoothly around the base of each earbud and around the plug jack. If your earphones have a case, you can also put a strip of tape on the front and back of your case to help you remember which earbuds go in which case.
