DIY Mini Fabric Organization Trays

We live in a very old house with lots of built in cabinets and drawers, which is fabulous, I admit. But those old drawers and large and deep and things are easily lost in them if they aren’t corralled into smaller trays and boxes. This project makes tidy little trays perfect for holding change, jewelry, or other small items that you don’t want getting lost in the mire of your drawers.

Difficulty level: Moderate to advanced
Time required: 20 minutes plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
Lightweight cotton fabric
Fabric stiffener
Scissors
Ruler
Embroidery thread
Embroidery needle
Iron
Ironing board

Things to do:
1. Press your fabric well before beginning. Cut squares or rectangles that are 1″ larger all the way around than the finished tray size you are after.
2. Spray the fabric down well with fabric stiffener. You want to get it nice and west but not dripping. Hang to dry flat.
3. Once the fabric is dry, fold in and press a 1 inch flap on each side of the square. Fold and press the corners at an angle.

4. Pull the angled corners together and fold over onto one side of the flap.

5. Thread your embroidery needle and sew two French knots to hold the angled flap tightly onto one of the sides.

6. Repeat with the other corners, pulling the sides of the tray up as you work.
7. Trim away excess thread and put those babies to good use!
