DIY Kid’s Organizer

Little girls are notorious for having lots of little accessories that are hard for them to keep up with. This cute and personal organizer reflects her personality and helps her keep her things in one place. Moms will love it because it will help keep her kids’ room clean and teach the child some organization!

And there’s no reason that this could be made using a more masculine fabric for a boys’ room, just turn your imagination loose!
When selecting fabric, please note that a sturdy cotton that holds it’s shape would be nicer to the crafter than this jersey was! Jersey stretches everywhere and makes a smooth, taut surface near impossible!

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Age range: Kids with an adult
Time required: One hour, plus paint drying time

Things you’ll need:
Blank canvas
Fabric
Scissors
Thumbtack
Hammer
String and/or Ribbon
Clothespins
Spray Paint
Newspaper

Things to do:
1. Spray paint clothespins in well-ventilated area. Allow to dry.

2. Place canvas on fabric, determine how much you’ll need to cover and leave an edge.

3. Measure/eyeball the canvas and fabric again, just to be sure!
4. Cut fabric.

5. Fold a hem in the fabric and using thumb tacks, attach along one side. Use invisible tape to hold down hem, if you want. Space thumbtacks evenly down each side. Don’t push them down all the way yet!

6. Gently pull fabric taut from the other side, fold a hem, and attach with thumbtacks. Use tape to hold the hem, if you want. Place thumbtacks directly across from the opposite side. Don’t push them down all the way yet!
7. Check tautness of fabric and adjust thumbtacks as needed.

8. Fold the corners neatly and carefully and secure with a thumbtack.

9. Take yarn and tie to a thumbtack.

10. String yarn across the front and tie to opposite thumbtack. Cut remainders.

11. Fold a hem in ribbon and attach with a thumbtack.

12. Drape ribbon around the front of the frame and attach with opposite thumbtack.

13. Repeat using yarn or ribbon until all thumbtacks are in use.
14. We added a “secret pocket’ to the back of the frame, just because! Just tack down a rectangle of fabric to the back of the frame.
15. Add any embellishments, if you’d like. Be sure and sign your work! Give and enjoy the smiles!
