DIY Iron Ons

Wall decals are a great way to spice up a room and add interest. And removable wall decals are a great way to personalize a space when you can’t paint or hang wallpaper. This technique turns any lightweight fabric into a custom wall decal, which peels off easily and leaves no trace.

Things you’ll need:
Aleene’s Fabric Stiffner in a spray bottle
Lightweight fabric (quilting cotton is ideal)
Scissors
Pencil
Iron
Tape

Things to do:
1. Cut a piece of fabric slightly bigger than the decal you wish to make.
2. On a protected surface lay out your fabric and spray both the front and back with stiffner until thoroughly wet. Allow the fabric to dry flat.

3. Once completely dry, sketch or use a stencil to draw a shape onto the backside of the fabric. Remember that letters need to be traced onto the back of fabric backwards.

4. Cut out the fabric shape and, using small pieces of tape, hang the decal on the wall where you want it.
5. With a medium hot iron and keeping the heated surface moving lightly and constantly, iron the decal directly onto the wall, avoiding the tape until the rest of the decal has adhered. Remove the tape and then iron the remaining portion of the decal.
