DIY Ice Cream Cone Necklace

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream necklaces! Mix and match your favorite flavors of ice cream without the calories. This tutorial shows you how easy it is to make your own jewelry to beat the heat this summer.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 1 hour
Age range: 6 and up (supervision required for hot glue gun)

Things you’ll need:
1 – Miniature unfinished wood flower pot
1 – Round bead
Brown and orange acrylic paint
Foam brush
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Tooth pick
Pencil
Leather cord
Scissors

Things to do:
1. The first step is to paint the unfinished wood flower pot brown with a 1″ poly foam brush. The trick to keeping fingerprints off the flower pot while painting is to insert a pencil into the middle of the flower pot and place in a cup or mason jar. This gives you hands free access to paint and allow the flower pot to dry evenly. Allow the flower pot to dry for 30 minutes. Wash and dry your foam brush for step 2.

2. The next step is to paint the round bead orange with the 1″ foam brush. I like to insert a toothpick into the round bead so that I can paint it without getting fingerprints on the bead. I place my toothpick with the bead on it into a Styrofoam cone to allow the bead to dry evenly. Allow to dry for 30 minutes before proceeding to step 3.

3. Once my round bead and flower pot are both completely dry, I then add a generous amount of hot glue to the inside of the flower pot. Press the orange round bead into the pot. Be sure to align the bead so that the holes are centered in the middle and can easily be accessed to thread the leather cord through in step 4.

4. Use scissors to cut a 24″ piece of leather cord (or whatever necklace size you desire for this). Thread one end of the leather cord through the hole in the orange round bead.

5. Securely knot the leather cord together and your necklace is ready to wear!
