DIY Gold Strings Lights

Christmas might be over, but that’s no reason to put away all the twinkle lights! Turn them into an year round decor piece with a little time and paint and you’ll end up with something fun and fabulous! While any color can be used here, gold makes an excellent pairing with the glow of the lights and is perfect indoors or out.

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 1 hour plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
Strings lights, either traditional or LED bulb style
Gold plate spray paint
Masking tape and/ or paper towels

Things to do:
1. Before you begin to paint, you’ll need to mask off or remove the bulbs from your lights. If you are using non-removable LED bulbs, wrap the glass of each bulb in a small piece of masking tape. If you are using traditional lights or LED lights with removable bulbs, pull out each bulb, set it aside, and stuff a small piece of paper towel into the cavity where the bulb was. Repeat for all the lights on the strand.

2. Mask off the prongs of your plug or, if you are using solar lights, the end of the wire and the solar panel using tape and paper towels to cover the unit.
3. In a well ventilated area, spray the lights with thin coats of paint on a covered work surface, turning the strand over as each coat dries to make sure the whole things is well covered.
4. Once the cords and bulb bases are painted and dry, remove the masking or paper towels and replace the bulbs on the removable style strands. Plug in and enjoy!
