I love the look of mercury glass, there is something magical about the shiny, aged sparkle. This technique gives turns simple glass jars and votives into realistic looking faux mercury glass, an excellent way to breath new life into little used glassware and to spice up your decor at the same time.

Things You’ll Need:
Silver Plating Spray Paint
Clear glass vases, bowls or votives
Paper
Tape
Water

Things to do:
1. Wrap the glass with paper, taping it in place and covering the outside right up to the top edge, but not over.

2. Spray the inside of the glass lightly with water.
3. Before the water dries, spray the interior of the glass with two thin coats of paint, one right after another.
4. Allow the paint to dry completely, repeating the process if the paint is too thin.
5. Remember that if you want to use these for flowers, you will need to set a glass inside the mercury glass so that the paint does not peel.

  1. I have been experimenting with crackle medium, then silver paint…then coating with black….this way is much easier. LOL

    1. Thank you 🙂 The outside of the container is covered to just make sure there is no residual spray on the outside.
