DIY Fabric Bow Bookmark


These lovely bow bookmarks are practical and sturdy for any book lover! Made from your fabric scraps and coated with fabric stiffener, it won’t fray and will hold up to repeated use! Great for yourself or as a gift.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 1 hour (includes drying time)
Age range: 10+

Things you’ll need:
Butterfly paper clips
Fabric stiffener
Paint brush
Fabric scraps
Needle and thread
Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
Scissors
Iron

Things to do:
1. Cut one of your fabric scraps to 2″ x 6″ and another to 1′ x 3. Thread your needle and knot one end and warm up your hot glue gun. Fold the ends of the larger piece toward the center as shown.

2. Fold the center like a fan and pinch.

3. Insert the needle and thread through the center and wrap several times. Don’t clip the thread yet.

4. Glue the bow to the top of the clip and allow the glue to dry. Wrap the thread around the clip for added security, and knot and clip the end.

5. The bow bookmark will look like this.

6. Fold the smaller fabric scrap in half the long way as shown to find the center. Press with your iron. Open the rectangle.

7. Press both long ends inward, toward the center, as shown.

8. Now press the rectangle in half again, enclosing the raw edges.

9. Glue to the center of the bow.

10. Wrap the ends around the back and glue in place. This is what the bow looks like when completed.

11. Brush on the fabric stiffener and allow to dry. Make sure the fabric stiffener is brushed on all raw edges. Enjoy your bookmark!
