DIY Embossed Tags

This technique opens up so many possibilities for personalizing tags! Making embossing a simple and elegant option, the sky is the limit for shapes and patterns. While we used a punch to create our initial embossing template, don’t be afraid to freehand cut the shape you want to emboss with. Anything and everything is possible!

Difficulty level: Moderate
Time required: 5 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Heavy cardstock or light cardboard
Paper tags
Bone folder or knitting needle
Paper punch or craft knife

Things to do:
1. Cut the shape you want to emboss from your cardboard or cardstock, the thickness of the template will dictate how high your tag is embossed. If your cardstock isn’t thick enough, just fold it and cut through two layers. Here we’ve used a heart punch, but you can make any shape you want.

2. Holding the tag and template up to a window for placement, place the opening on the template over the spot where you want the shape to be.

3. With the tag on top, run the tip of the knitting needle or bone folder along the inner edge of the template opening. This will create an embossed line drawing of your shape. To push up the inside of the shape use the side of the knitting needle or bone folder to color in” the shape.

4. Flip the tag over and you’ll have an embossed shape decorating it!
