DIY Decorative Wood Cutting Board

These unfinished wood cutting boards are great for any project. With Mother’s Day coming up, I thought it would be fun to create a lobster themed decorative wood cutting board to give my mother. She grew up on Cape Cod and loves eating anything with lobster in it! You could personalize this DIY to your own needs by using any cookie cutter design that is special to you.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time required: 2 hrs (including dry times)
Age range: 5 and up (with assistance with the glue)

Things you’ll need:
Small unfinished wood cutting board
White acrylic paint
Lobster cookie cutter
Red spray paint
E600 glue
Foam brush

Things to do:
1. Apply white acrylic paint to the front and edges of your cutting board with the foam brush. Let dry for about 20 minutes.

2. Apply a second coat of white paint to the cutting board and let dry for another 20 minutes.

3. In a well ventilated area, apply a thin, even coat of red spray paint to the metal cookie cutter. Let dry, 1 hr.

4. When both your cutting board and cookie cutter are dry, use the E600 glue to attach the cookie cutter to the center of the cutting board. Press firmly and hold for 1 minute until the glue has bonded. Then place a heavy object (like a book) on top of the cookie cutter. This will apply pressure and help keep the cookie cutter in place. Allow to dry for 1 hour.

5. Add ribbon through the top hole of the cutting board handle if you would like to hang the decorative cutting board on a wall.
