DIY Artificial Succulent Planter

You know you love “em…but your thumb is, well, less than green. Succulents are beautiful, and with this artificial succulent planter, you’ll get all of the beauty without all of the maintenance!

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 30 minutes
Age Range: 12+ (cutting the stems might still require adult help)

Things you’ll need:
Small terra cotta pot drainage tray
Blue acrylic paint
Paintbrush
Three types of faux succulents
Artificial moss sheet
Hot glue gun and hot glue
Pliers and wire cutters
Eye protection

Things to do:
1. Paint the inside of your pot drainage tray. I’ve used an older one here rather than buying something new, so will paint a couple of coats, especially around the rim.

2. Allow the inside to dry, and then paint the outside.

3. Paint just until you reach the base of the tray – there’s no need to paint the bottom! Allow this to dry and add a second coat, if desired.

4. Warm up your hot glue gun. Break apart the moss sheet so it will fit nicely in the tray.

5. Glue the moss into the tray. You’ll need to glue sections at a time, so be careful with your fingers!

6. Wear eye protection and use pliers and wire cutters to snip the stems off your succulents. Some of these can be pretty tough, so use caution and assist children with this task.

7. Audition placement for your succulents. Once you’ve decided where you’d like them to go, hot glue them into the planter, making sure the moss covers the base of each. Enjoy your new
