DIY Antique Distressed Wood Treatment

This simple Antique Wood Treatment is a great way to personalize picture frames or wooden knick-knacks around your home. What is so wonderful about this treatment is that it can be done with just a few simple crafting supplies. For this example, I used acrylic paint, however, latex house paint will also work for this project. Add an element of rustic flair to your home with this simple antique wood treatment.

Things you’ll need:
Wooden picture frame
Dark-colored paint
Light-colored paint
Craft glue
Paint brush

Things to do:
1. Remove the glass and backing from your picture frame and place your picture frame on paper or some other painting surface.
2. Use your brush to paint your picture frame with the dark-colored paint. Make sure that all of your picture frame is covered with the dark paint and let it dry completely.
3. Once your dark paint is completely dry, begin applying a liberal amount of craft glue to your picture frame. The glue should not be dripping all over your paper, but your picture frame should have a nice thick coat of white paint on it.
4. When the glue is partially dry but still gooey, gingerly apply your light-colored paint on top of the coat of glue.
5. Let this layer dry completely until cracks begin to form and the glue turns clear.
6. Replace the glass and backing to your picture frame, insert your favorite picture, and place your new rustic picture frame somewhere to be admired.
