DIY Adorable Hungry Caterpillar

This adorable caterpillar craft is perfect to do with young kids! Simply prepare a few steps before hand and let them make their own hungry caterpillar craft. This activity makes a wonderful addition to the storybook, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Kids are sure to love this toy and the process of making it with you.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time to complete: 10 Minutes
Age range: 3 and Up

Things you’ll need:
Wooden Beads
Green Pipe Cleaner
Green Felt
Googly Eyes
Craft Glue
Scissors
Paper

Things to do:
1. Cut a piece of paper that is 3 1/2 inches wide x 5 1/2 inches tall. Fold the paper in half and cut out a leaf shape pattern. The leaf shape doesn’t have to be perfect. Just play with the shape until you find a look that you’re happy with.

2. Once you’ve cut out a leaf shape that you like, trace it onto your piece of green felt and cut it out.
3. Fold the felt leaf in half and cut out two slits. Be sure to space the cuts far enough apart that the caterpillar can fit in them. If children are doing this craft, it’s a good idea to have this step completed before hand, so they don’t have to use scissors.

4. Roll the end of a pipe cleaner until you have a ball shape that is large enough to hold the beads in place.

5. String the beads onto the pipe cleaner and make an “M” shape with the end of the pipe cleaner. The “M” shape will look like the antennas.

6. Use craft glue to secure two wiggly eyes to the head of the caterpillar. If you’re doing this craft with young children, it may be easier to give them a sharpie and let them draw the face on.

7. Once you’ve allowed the wiggly eyes time to dry, weave your caterpillar into the leaf.
