Cork Coasters

I’m an obsessive coaster user, my furniture isn’t fancy enough for that, but I do like to use them now and then and try to keep some around for myself and my guests. These cork coasters are a snap to make and are excellent at insulating against both hot and cold. Plus they can be customized to whatever style you like. Try using stamps instead of gel pens to decorate, or paint them entirely with craft paint.

Things you’ll need:
Sheet cork
Cup or glass
Scissors
Gel pens
Clear coat spray (optional)

Thing to do:
1. Trace your cup or glass onto the cork to make as many circles as you want coasters.

2. Carefully cut out the circles using your scissors.
3. Decorate with gel pens to create a pattern or saying on your coasters.

4. Once the ink dries, spray lightly with clear coat to protect the ink. Allow the clear coat to dry completely before using.

Doily Pocket Cardigan

I’m a cardigan girl. In part this is because I live in a part of the world where it really never gets very warm. Other than a month or so in the summer, it’s pretty much always cardigan weather. So I have a vast collection. The only problem is that several of my cardigans have no pockets which, as a mom, are very necessary, there are just too many things that I need to tote to live without pockets. Which is where doilies come in! A little thread and a doily and bang, a boring old (pocketless!) cardigan becomes something handy and pretty!

Things you’ll need:
Cardigan
Doilies
Thread and needle
Pins

Things to do:
1. Put the cardigan on and mark, using your pins, where you want the center of the pocket to be.
2. Remove the cardigan and pin the doilies in place centered over your marking pins.
3. Put the cardigan back on and test for positioning. If you like the placement, remove the marking pins.
4. Decide where you want to opening of the pocket to be, for this cardigan I chose a slight angled back from the top of the pocket”.

5. Stitch the doily in place, leaving the opening where you want them. Trim all thread before wearing.
