Burlap Ribbon Cross-stitch Bookmark

This is a great project for kids (or adults) to make and give as gifts. Customize the message or picture for the person or the holiday by sketching out a pattern on graph paper before you start or just free hand a pattern. You’ll love making it and they will love getting it!

Things you’ll need:
Burlap Ribbon
Embroidery floss
Embroidery needle
Scissors
Graph paper (optional)

Things to do:
1. Trim a length of ribbon a few inches longer than the length you want your bookmark. If you are letting a child do the stitching, it’s a good idea to add a layer of tape to each end, folded over, to keep it from fraying as you work.

2. Thread your needle with un-split embroidery thread. Because the weave is large on the burlap ribbon, you’ll need all six strands of the thread to make a nice impact.

3. Tie off on the backside, knotting well and trimming the thread as close as possible to the know.
4. Stitch your pattern, changing thread as necessary and tying off on the back when you are done.
5. Remove the tape and trim the bookmark to length.
