Bouncy and Playful Pom Pom Spider on a Stick

Boing, boing, boing…..eek! Is it a spider? Well, kind of. But this adorable fuzzy spider with its big eyes and colorful body is guaranteed to make you laugh rather than run in fear. It’s a fun toy for kids ages 3+, and the elastic thread allows this cartoon spider” to frolic and bounce.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Time required: 30 minutes
Age range: 10+

Things you’ll need:
Large tinsel pom pom
25mm googly eyes
Pipe cleaners
Dowel rod
Elastic bead cord
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Warm up your hot glue gun. Cut a 40″ length of the elastic bead cord and tie around the middle of the large tinsel pom pom. You can bury” it in the pom pom so the white cord isn’t obvious on the pom pom (except for the long length hanging at the top!).

2. Cut 8 pieces of pipe cleaner to 4″ long each. Bend the tops about 1″ from the top. Apply hot glue to this end of the pipe cleaner, and bury into the pompon, below the half-way point. These are the legs, so leave room for 4 pieces across on each side for the spider’s legs.

3. Bend the bottom of each pipe cleaner to create feet.”

4. Glue the eyes onto pompom, and glue one small pompom under for the nose.

5. Tie the end of the elastic cord to the end of the dowel rod. Secure with dab of hot glue.

6. Glue a medium-sized pom pom to the dowel rod on the same side the elastic is attached to, covering the knot.

Enjoy your spider!
