Awesomely Fun Glow Jars

Glow sticks are, perhaps, the best 99 cents I can spend for my children. They never, ever get tired of them. Ever. So imagine their surprise when I turned a couple of glow sticks into a glowing jar to bring a little light to their bedtime routine.

Things you’ll need:
Glow bracelets
Jars with tightly fitting lids
Kitchen shears

Things to do:
1. Crack the glow sticks well so that they start to glow.

2. Holding the glow sticks upright over a garbage can, cut the top 1/4 inch off of each tube.
3. Tip the glow sticks into the jar, holding them just off the bottom of the glass.
4. Use the shears cut the top end off of each tube, allowing the gel to drip into the jars.
5. Seal the jars well and shake to distribute the gel around the jar.

While the liquid in glow in the dark bracelets is non-toxic, it’s best to do this for the kids so that they don’t come into contact with the gel.

    1. The glow time would depend on what kind of glow sticks you buy. The length of time should be stated on the package of glow sticks when you buy them. Here in the United States you can buy them at dollar stores, convenience stores, and retail stores. In Canada, it looks like you can probably get them at party supply stores and online. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will be happy to help!

  1. What a delightful project for kids and adults. A nice sublte night light. You didnt say how long the glow lasts but at that price can afford to make them often. That would be a good thing to take camping also so kids can see where they are in rv or tent. I love this idea.
