DIY Nature Wood Play Block City

We’re big block builders in our family. Even as my kids start reaching out of the toy years, they still like to dig through that big old bin of blocks and build away. This project has taken that age old game to a new level, expanding on the creativity that makes their city-scaping so fun. And to add to the fun, let the kids sketch out the city blocks themselves and take over for the burning portion of the project.

Difficulty level: Moderate
Time required: 1 hour

Things you’ll need:
Wood blocks
Pencil
Wood burning tool

Things to do:
1. Sketch, or let your kids sketch, the basic elements of a building on the blocks. Mix it up, making some blocks have doors, some have windows, some work as roofs and some have whole houses or buildings on them.

2. Screw in the fine or chisel tip into the wood burner and plug it in.
3. Trace the lines that you sketched with the wood burning tool.

4. Once the basics are done, start embellishing. Add buntings, hash marks, dots and shutters to give texture and interest to the blocks.
