DIY Paper Doily Parasol Picks

This cute little parasol is perfect as a favor or cupcake topper for a bridal or baby shower.

Difficulty level: Beginner
Time to complete: 15 minutes

Things you’ll need:
Round Paper Lace Doilies
1/8″ Unfinished Wood Dowel Rod
Embellishment for top
6 inches of 1/8″ Ribbon
Hot glue gun
Scissors

Things to do:
1. Fold the doily in half, then open it back up.

2. Fold in half the opposite way, and open back up.

3. Repeat two more times between the other folds, bringing the wrong side (or under side) of the doily together for each fold. You should now have 8 pie shapes.
4. Turn doily over and repeat, with each fold between these made on the other side. These folds will be right side (or the top side) together.
5. You will now have 16 pie shapes with peak and valley folds alternating.

6. Working your way around the outer edge of the doily, deepen each fold until the parasol is formed to desired shape.

7. Trim the dowel rod with scissors to desired length. A longer length is recommended for cupcakes-I used 3 1/2″. If using for a favor, then a shorter length will work.

8. Hot glue the dowel rod on the underside of the doily, holding the dowel until the glue sets.

9. Hot glue the embellishment on the top point.
10. Cut a 6″ piece of 1/8″ ribbon. Tie in a bow around the dowel, trimming the ends to the desired length. You can secure the bow with a small dot of glue, if needed.
