How to Make a Glow-in-the-Dark House Key

It’s happened to us all. You head out for the evening and, forgetting or not thinking you’ll be home late, you forget to turn on the porch light. Or maybe you remembered but the bulb went out while your out! Either way, you’re stuck in the dark, trying to find which key fits the lock, not an easy task! Save the situation with this little trick and never struggle to find the right key in the dark again!

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: Less than five minutes plus dry time.

Things you’ll need:
Keys
Glow in the dark paint
Clear nail polish
Paintbrush

Things to do:
1. Decide if you will be painting a single key on your keychain or multiple keys. Remove them form the keychain and wipe them down to remove any fingerprints, oils or debris.

2. If you are working with just a single key, paint the top half of the key with a medium coat of glow in the dark paint.

3. If you need to identify multiple keys, paint a symbol or letter to denote different keys. For example, the back door key could have a B on it while the front door has a house shape.
4. Allow the paint to dry then coat with clear fingernail polish to seal.
5. Once the nail polish has hardened completely, repeat with the other side of the key(s).
6. Allow everything to dry thoroughly before replacing the keys on your keychain.
