No. 1 Teacher Plaque

It’s back to school time and if your kids are like mine, they’ll want to bring something special in for their new teacher. This little plaque is easy to make and brings together the icons of the back to school year, chalkboards, chalk, apples and teachers.

Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 10 minutes plus dry time

Things you’ll need:
Wooden plaque
Chalkboard paint
Foam brush
Apple
Knife
Chalk
Red and Green Acrylic Craft Paint

Things to do:
1. On a covered work surface coat your wooden plaque in two layers of chalkboard paint, allowing each to dry before adding the next.

2. Once the second coat is dry, cut your apple in half.
3. Paint the apple with a light coat of red craft paint and press onto the plaque. Dab a little green paint onto a finger tip and press above the apple to make a leaf. Allow the paint to dry and the chalkboard paint to cure for a few days.

4. Once the paint has cured, inscribe the plaque with the name of your child’s teacher and the school year.
